Abstract
With the financial support of the European Community eContentp/us program the GEOMIND project established two pioneer international standards for geophysical information: the GEOMIND Profile, an extension of the ISO 19115 metadata standard for geographic information, and the General Geophysical Data Model (GGDM) for geophysical measurement and interpretation data. The article summarizes the role of these two models in the GEOMIND information system, and explains the benefits of using a general approach and schema based XML languages in geophysical data exchange.
