N2 - At two localities, Gyldendal and Kås Hoved in the western part of the Limfjord-area, the Quaternary stratigraphy has been investigated. According to the grain size distribution, fine gravel analyses, till fabric measurements and tectonic analyses, four kineto-stratigraphic units can be established: Unit 1, glaciofluvial deposits and a sandy till laid down by an ice-sheet from the east; unit 2, a sandy till deposited from the northeast; unit 3, a clayey till and tectonic disturbances originating from an icemovement from the southeast and unit 4, glaciofluvial deposits and glaciotectonic deformations caused by an icemovement from the northeast. At both of the localities Quaternary marine deposits have been found and the foraminiferal content has been investigated. Three samples (between unit 1 and 2) from Gyldendal contained foraminiferal faunas indicating a shallow arctic marine environment. These marine deposits are suggested to be of late Elsterian age. The marine sequence at Kås Hoved (below unit 2) contains boreal foraminiferal faunas from a water depth of more than about 15 m. These faunas reflect true interglacial conditions, and the faunal composition points to a Holsteinian age.The age determination of the marine deposits permits a correlation of the kineto-stratigraphic units with established glacial advances: Unit 1 belongs to the Elsterian glaciation; unit 2 to the Drenthe (Saale I) advance, unit 3 to the Warthe (Saale II) advance, and unit 4 is referred to the Weichselian (NE-)advance.
