Abstract
The symposium focuses on the nature, setting, and genesis of gold mineralization in Nordic North Atlantic. The symposium programme includes a 3-days field trip to gold prospects in the southern part of Scandinavia, and a 2-day technical meeting on gold studies within the Nordic region and Greenland as well as comparitive studies with regions farther afield.
Over the last 15 years the worlds mining industry has focused much of their attention on gold exploration and exploitation which also have been the case in the Nordic countries. The general decline in mining activity and the somewhat decreasing interest for gold exploration in the Nordic countries, except Greenland, created the neccessary background for the initiation of this Nordic Gold Symposium.
It was found appropriate to gather specialists in the field both from the research institutions and the mining industry as well as invited guest lecturers in order to a) get an up to date knowledge of gold mineralization In the concerned areas, and b) exchange ideas and experiences about gold metallogeny and gold exploration which hopefully may lead to new ideas and concepts and ultimately to the appearance of new possibilities for the mining industry.
The English language in the extended abstract volume and field trip guide has not been formally corrected, only assessed by the reviewers, who are members of the organizing committee.
The symposium is sponsored by NorFa and by the Geological Surveys of Denmark and Greenland, Finland and Norway as well as by the Universities of Aarhus, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
