Abstract
Since January 1st 2006 and during a challenging period of three years, the project known as EU GeoCapacity was developed with the goal of obtaining a homogeneous evaluation of the European capacity for geological storage of CO2. This evaluation had to be based in a common definition of the standards used. The standards were developed in order to avoid subjective differences that would lead to non-comparable estimates. One of the most important results of the project is a GIS based database that contains complete information about CO2 sources, transport infrastructure and potential storages of CO2.
