Abstract

Regional climate models are used to dynamically downscale climate data from a global circulation model to a regional scale. The climate data presented here has been prepared for use in a hydrological impact study. The impact study will focus on the effects of future climate change on groundwater in Denmark. The climate data is output from the regional climate model HIRHAM and is available for two time slices: one representing the present climate (1961-1990) and another for the future climate (2071-2100). The climate change signal is transferred using he so-called delta change method. Output for precipitation, temperature and potential evopotranspiration is presented. This data is available at a 12 km resolution, which makes it possible to study regional variation. Furthermore the influence of different grid resolutions of the climate model on the data is studied. In order to assess the realism of this particular regional cliate model (HIRHAM), the precipitation and temperature output is compared to the output of 8 other regional climate model simulations. On the basis of these comparisons of resolution and various climate models it is decided that the HIRHAM climate data is appropriate to use in a hydrological impact study.
