Resumé
The Late Jurassic was the most critical time interval in the evolution of the North Sea petroleum system for three important reasons. Firstly, it was the time of deposition of the widespread Kimmeridge Clay Formation and its lateral equivalents, which together constitute a world-class oil source rock that has charged the mejority of North Sea fields.
