Resumé
Understanding the distribution and the factors controlling the porosity preservation of the chalk in the Danish Central Graben is of great importance in pursuing new discoveries and opportunities for exploitation of hydrocarbons in the North Sea. We present new insights on the importance of depositional facies in the chalk as a controlling factor governing the porosity distribution. A marked difference in the compaction trends of pelagic and re-worked chalk units is demonstrated. In particular re-worked units are shows to have the potential to have porosity of reservoir quality, i.e. > 20 % at burial depth exceeding 3000 ms in the DCG.
