Resumé

The remains of the deeply exhumed, 3 Ga Maniitsoq impact structure are hosted by granulite-facies orthogneisses and relict metavolcanic belts. Its 35 x 50 km large core (Finnefjeld domain) is thoroughly comminuted by impact-induced seismic oscillations. The surrounding melt zone displays direct mineral melting, localised crush zones and subsequent fluid-assisted anatectic melting triggered by the impacting.
