Resumé
The first H2 data from a landfill leachate plume are presented, and an alternative partial equilibrium approach is used to relate the H2 concentrations to specific redox processes. The approach implies that terminal electron-accepting processes (TEAP) occur at negative ΔGr values near the thermodynamic equilibrium, and that the fermentative H2 production is overall rate limiting. ΔGr values of TEAPs were calculated, assuming partial equilibrium, using H2 concentrations and redox process reactants and products from the Grindsted Landfill. Combined with a threshold value, the calculated values predict which TEAPs can occur via H2 oxidation.
