Resumé
This paper presents an advanced mathematical modelling system, which can be used to set up a wide range of different models for one-dimensional flow, sediment transport and water quality computations. The system can switch between complex and simpler sets of equations depending on the purpose of the application. Thus, the same modelling system can set up flood routing models for use in, for example, real time forecasting, and fully dynamic models for flood analyses including two-dimensional descriptions of the flow over flood plains. The paper presents an application of the modelling system to the lower part of the Damodar river in West-Bengal, India.
