Resumé

Palynostratigraphic analysis and detailed mapping of the Volcano-Sedimentary Complex
sedimentary formations and the Mértola Formation (Baixo Alentejo Flysch), in the Aljustrel mining area of the Iberian Pyrite Belt, permit a better understanding of the local structure. The Paraíso Formation shows an upper Tournaisian to upper Viséan age (CM and Pu Miospores Biozones). The Gavião Formation presents a similar age (upper Tournaisian, CM Biozone). A new unit is proposed representing the base of the Mértola Formation, the Canal da BAI Unit (upper middle Viséan age, NM biozone).
