Resumé
Ageing of refractory materials during cell life was studied with respect to changes in thermal conductivity and consequently influence on the heat balances. Autopsies were performed on electrolytic cells with ages ranging from 500 days to 3200 days. Comparison of heat balances during start up of the cells and after 2000 days of operation, and with three different combinations of insulating materials, was made.
