Dating DK

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

Recently, the location of the Main Stationary Line in Denmark has been questioned. The location has been questioned partly due to the lack of absolute dating of key sites along the former ice margin, as well as existing dating methods (as OSL-dating) have proven to be problematic. Dating DK aims to test a new method – 10Be profiling – to determine the age of outwash plains and thus the ice retreat in Denmark. Additionally, the project seeks to shed light on the placement of the iconic Main Stationary Line in Denmark. If the results are positive, the project will be used as a steppingstone to submit a larger application to utilize the method in dating older Elsterian, Saalian, and Weichselian outwash plains in Northwest Europe and North America (including Greenland). Furthermore, the project aims to build new competencies within the Geocenter for mapping and dating Quaternary deposits, add to the Quaternary mapping and stratigraphy in Denmark and to contribute to anchoring the expertise of two younger researchers at GEUS.
